Hampton Court Palace was built by Cardinal Wolsey (Lord Chancellor of England)during the reign of Henry VIII. Henry visited him one day, and said that is was such a fine building, wouldn't he love to give it to his king? Wolsey, ever the fan of his neck, replied that nothing would make him happier, and so it became a royal palace. some lords and ladies still live in the palace at the Grace and Favour of the Queen. we could walk right by their apartment doors! how weird would that be?1

of course, the real reason for going to the palace is for the 'gardens.' garden is much too quaint a word for the grounds around the palace.

ok, I know I don't prove it in all the pictures, but if you look closely, I am not only holding up the tree, I am doing it in short sleeves!!! it was an amazing 'warm' day. it maybe reached 72. still. it was the first day I walked around at all without my jacket on.

and the piece de resistance, and the most like alice in wonderland, is the hedge maze!!!
(I didn't take this first picture, but there is no way to get a picture of the maze from above)

so much fun walking all over the palace and the grounds! it was like a dream it was so pretty. unlike Alice, I hope it wasn't all a dream. hahaha

It would have been wonderful if I could have gone through the maze with you. ;)
WOW-those were the best pictures yet! I am seeing the advantages to constantly falling rain. Just beautiful.
haha, yeah. I am a dork. we were walking around the grounds, and there were so many people there. I thought I heard sprinklers somewhere, and then I got to thinking about when they must water the lawn. and then I remembered they dont have to irrigate. they have rain. brainpower in action!
