First night, not too bad. Today my friends and I forded through our little neighborhood and found Sainsbury's, the grocery store. on the way I found a post office as well, so that will come in handy soon.
Sainsbury's is much like a NYC grocery store, for the most part they have everything, just smaller, more expensive, and in different packaging. most of the prices were comparable to the US. 2 liter of diet pepsi costs £1.36, of course, then you realize that it is actually more like $2.70 and suddenly things aren't worth it. most food I wanted or need just seems too expensive to buy. although I did walk out of the store only £8 lighter and nothing was over a pound, so woo to me!
This brings up money though. I think british paper money only goes down to the £5 note, I have a £2 and a £1 pound coin, and I didnt bring a traditional wallet for cash, cuz I don't normally deal with coins and such, so I am making do.
Today was our sightseeing tour and I was expecting to have lots of pictures from it, but it was much more of a "sit on the bus and listen to the guide talk about the famous stuff of London as you drive by" instead of a "and here on your right is Big Ben, let's stop and have a look at it" kind of tour. my friends and I have already decided that we are going to break in our tube passes by going back down there and actually looking at everything.
we did tour Westminster Abbey today, and actually went inside. That was really cool. So much history, and our guide was totally into Da Vinci code, so she would tell us little things about the Abbey and showed us Newton's tomb and all that. fun! also, the royal coronation chair is kept in the abbey, right behind the alter where the king or queen gets coronated. it is from the 1200s!!! and is still used! crazy.
Tonight we are going to a pub to celebrate one of my roomies' 21st birthday. she is kinda bummed that it doesnt mean anything here, since 18 is legal, but we are going to have a good time anyway. Can't get drunk though, none of us know how to get home well enough for that. hahaha

Ah. Da Vinci code. Feel my disdain radiating across the ocean.

Did you say you were going to a pub? I thought they only did that in movies. :)
yeah, movies that are set in England :) and a 21st birthday is always worth celebrating no matter where you are. What's going to happen when you guys can make it home with your eyes closed? Oh yeah, you'll move to another city! Good thing, I almost felt a "be careful" coming on. :)
