stuff

ok, today the entire group went to the Globe theater for a workshop about the history of the globe and shakespeare's plays.

get ready dad, this is so cool, so I found out the origin of a lot of words today, and thought of you the entire time! ok, so in shakespeare's day the theaters did a different play everyday and usually only had a day or two to learn lines of a new play. and because there was no copyright laws, each actor only got the lines that they needed for their part.

so behind the stage there was a platte, a chart, telling the actors which scenes they were in. we have since called it a plot

then, each actor was given his lines and the three lead in words to his lines (that is right, didnt know how much was said between his lines, just his cues) on a scroll, or roll of paper. therefore he was given his role

and of course it was hispart because he didnt get the entire script.

neato skeeto eh? also, most of shakespeare's stage directions are in his dialogue "this is friar lawrence, trembling and a weeping" (the acter playing the friar wouldnt know this until he heard it - cuz it isnt in his part of the script)

and the iambic pentameter told the actors their emotions. to be or not to be that is the question is 11 syllables, but it should be 10 to be iambic. so the actor playing hamlet should say : to be or not to be that is the quest (after all, he is a revenge hero and should be going on a quest for revenge, but he is hesitant and therefore adds the syllable to show that and change the word)

double skeeto yes?

so that was good learnin' if you ask me.

then we went back to harrods, again, to make a reservation for tea on thursday!! that is going to be super awesome. the lady said: there is no dress code, just dress nicely. we laughed at that.

also, I bought myself a swatch today!, I am pretty darn excited about it because I have wanted one since I went to NYC a few years ago, and for whatever reason I feel like watches are my collectible when I go on trips. I did buy a watch in NY, so I feel it was justified. plus I saw this watch days ago and still wanted it today, so it was a sign that I had to have it!

you can start the blatant oohing and ahhing now. thank you.

and so far we are definitely going to bath and stonehenge on sunday. we are shooting for wales on saturday, and the Leeds castle the following weekend. I still have to look up a trip to the cadbury factory as well. so much to do, and finally it feels like so little time. I like having a packed schedule though.

OOOHH! AAAHH! Very cool - you know I have quite a collection of watches myself - probably 16 or so, to wear with different outfits. So I totally understand and approve of such a practical thing to collect!
We are all enjoying your blog, including Grandma - thanks!
